Description:
This collection of orchestral works by Miklós Lója, winner of three Academy Awards, including for his film "Ben-Hur," was born in 1907 in Braapest and studied at the Leipzig Conservatory before moving to Paris and London before settling in the United States. As a composer of film music, he received 17 Academy Award nominations and won three times. At the same time, he continued to compose classical music and wrote many colorful pieces that match the dynamic sound of Hollywood film music with Hungarian ethnicity. The three works on this album span his entire creative period: the early, middle, and late period, including "Hungarian Serenade," composed in 1932 and first performed at the Budapest Theater, which was later revised at the suggestion of Richard Strauss after hearing it performed. Overture to the Symphony Concert" was written in 1956. It was written during a break from his work for MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), which was under contract in the U.S. at the time, and was dedicated to his friends who had been expelled from Hungary. The "Three Partitas" was written in 1971.Composed at the request of a publisher who had published his works, it was originally to be premiered by István Kertész, but he died before the premiere, so André Previn gave the first performance in England and Antal Dorati in the United States. The piece is a rhythmic piece reminiscent of Bartók. Gregor Buhl was born in 1964. He has conducted numerous operas at the Hamburg State Opera, Stuttgart State Opera, etc. He has recorded a series of Braunfels' works as well as Reger's Lieder, etc. for the CAPRICCIO label. He has recorded a series of Braunfels' works as well as Reger's Lieder and others for the CAPRICCIO label. Naxos Japan
