Description:
Born in Cleveland in 1957, Doss won a competition sponsored by the Bel Canto Foundation in 1985, and became a member of the Metropolitan Opera the following year. Since then, he has appeared in more than 60 countries, including La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, and the Royal Opera House in England. In the early 1990s, he performed in concert and on recordings with Kathleen Battle, who was a major star at the time. In the first half of this album, she shows her international talent in a variety of famous operatic arias and classic Neapolitan folk songs. In the second half, he expresses his own identity. In honor of Todd Duncan (who created the role of Porgy in "Porgy and Bess"), a great African-American baritone, she sang three songs from Todd's hit role "Lost in the Stars" and included two masterpieces by Thomas A. Dorsey, who is also called the father of gospel music.The show closes with a moving performance of the hit song "You Raise Me Up," which has lyrics that are gospel and spiritual in nature.
