Voce String Quartet

Description:

The Vauché Quartet's second project with splendid guests! POETIQUES DE L'INSTANT" is a project by the Vaucher Quartet. This is the second installment of the project in which Ravel or Debussy's masterpieces for string quartet will be performed along with other works and new pieces to form a series of linked programs like a series of paintings. Following the previous program (ALPHA798), which focused on Debussy's string quartets, this time the quartet performs Ravel's string quartets with guests in "Introduction and Allegro" and "Ma mer Roi," arranged by harpist Emmanuelle Seysson. Among the not so numerous examples of string quartets in modern France, Ravel's work, considered a masterpiece along with Debussy's, was written when he was 27 years old and had established himself as an emerging composer. In addition to the application of cyclic forms, he incorporated beautiful melodies, modulations, and polyrhythms in his forward-looking compositions, It is very Ravel-like. Seysson's arrangement of "Ma mère roi" is also beautifully done, with its ear-catching and unexpected use of birdsong and imitations of gongs. The new work is String Quartet No. 5 written by contemporary French composer Bruno Mantovani for the Voce Quartet. It is a very interesting work with a structure in which sharp accents, chromatic progressions, and tremolo-laden phrases propagate one after another among the four instruments, giving it a sense of unity, as if the instruments were busily conversing with each other, even though they seem to be in disarray. The Vaucher Quartet, with such splendid guests as Juliette Hurel and Remi Durangle, makes these works sound lively and fresh, and their charms are more than fully expressed. Naxos Japan
