Countertenor and Jazz Piano, a Pop-like Black Spiritual] Reginald Mobley is an American countertenor trusted by top-notch old-time music conductors such as John Eliot Gardiner. He has worked in jazz and pop music, and his first professional performance was at a musical theater in Japan, where he was working as an actor/singer for Tokyo Disneyland at the time. His first solo album is a collection of Negro spirituals and songs by Negro composers, performed by French jazz pianist Baptiste Trotignon, who has also released many classical works. Many of the Negro spirituals are arranged by Trotignon, and from the beginning of the album, the audience is drawn in by his fast and furious performance over a fusion-like beat. The album also includes works by Florence Price, said to be the first black female composer, and soul numbers by Barrett Strong, a Motown Records songwriter, which can be enjoyed with a taut countertenor.
