Description:
Composer and conductor Nimrot Borenstein's first recording for the SOMM Recordings label. Born in Tel Aviv, Borenstein received his early musical education in Paris before moving to London in 1984 as a Schiff Foundation Scholar. He studied composition and violin at the Royal Academy of Music and has worked as a composer and conductor. His works have been performed by numerous orchestras. This album contains three works featuring the piano. The Piano Concerto is a technical work reminiscent of Rachmaninoff, written for the Brazilian pianist Clelia Ilsun. Borenstein herself takes the baton and gives an impassioned performance.Light and Darkness, premiered in 2018, is a piano quintet with a title taken from the last passage of Stefan Zweig's book "The World of Yesterday." The work is in a single movement and has a crisp content that lives up to its title. Silim" is a piano suite for children. The title means "poem" or "song" in Hebrew, and it consists of 18 pieces with various moods. Naxos Japan
