Exquisite beauty! The World of A Capella with Peter Dijkstra The Dutch Chamber Choir, led by Peter Dijkstra, presents an a capella album of French and German music from around the end of the 19th century, the period in which Van Gogh and Klimt lived. You can hear choral works by greats such as Saint-Saens, Debussy, Richard Strauss, and Schoenberg, and it is a pleasure to hear choral arrangements of Satie's "Gymnopédie No. 1" (world premiere recording of this arrangement) and others. Of particular note are the Mahler arrangements, which alternate conversationally with works by his wife Alma, and the beauty of "Original Light" and Symphony No. 5 "Adagietto," sung in their uniquely pure a capella style, is truly heavenly. Many of the choral arrangements are by the German composer Critus Gottwald, who is well known in this field. The piece was also a collaboration with the Italian art collective "fuse*," and during the demonstration, images based on Van Gogh and Klimt's paintings were projected on a large screen on stage, and the images changed one after another in real time, reflecting the biological reactions of the audience and performers.
