Adriana Lecouvreur, a flamboyant actress, is in a heated love affair with the Duchess of Bouillon, who also adores her indecisive lover, Maurizio (Count of Saxony). Adriana, who is lying on her sickbed, receives a small box from Maurizio as a token of his sympathy... Based on the true story of the life of Adrienne Lecouvreur, a great actress in the Comedie Française, the hall of fame of French theater in the early 18th century, the writer Screeve has collaborated with his friend The play was adapted (1849) by the writer Scribe in collaboration with his friend LeGouvet. The opera "Adriana Lecouvreur" was composed by Francesco Cilea to a libretto by Arturo Colatti based on the play, and premiered in Milan in 1902 to great acclaim. This opera marks Daniel Harding's conducting debut at the Florence May Festival, and Uruguayan soprano Jose Maria Ciri, with her powerful and beautiful voice, sings with great earnestness the emotions of the heroine, who is torn between her pride as an artist and the troubles of her love. The role of her rival, the Duchess of Bouillon, is played by Ksenia Dudnikova, a mezzo-soprano from Uzbekistan who has made a name for herself in this role. She gives a powerful performance as she and the heroine engage in a heated exchange of words.Martin Mühle gives a superb performance as Maurizio, who is confused by the love of two women, and Nicola Alaimo sings a heartbreakingly pessimistic performance as Mishone, rounding out the lineup of talented male singers. Harding's agile baton leads the orchestra and singers of the Florence May Festival, and Frederick Wake-Walker's chic stage design combines with the melancholy and beautiful melodies of Cilea's masterpiece to create an emotionally rich production.
