Heinrich, heir to the throne of England, has had enough of his duties, and today he runs away from his birthday party, saying that he is going to the Admiral's. This "Admiral," his tenth opera and the first to be written by the composer himself, was composed in Vienna in 1847 and premiered in Leipzig the same year, and, like "Rosina," was a deeply socially charged work with political and labor themes. Unfortunately, it disappeared from the stage a short time later and was soon completely forgotten.The influence of Mozart, whom Lortzing admired, is evident throughout the work, especially in the solo and choral scenes, where one can hear virtuosity and superb technique.
