Ensemble Lalo and violinist Gilles Apap's new album Impressions d'enfance Impressions of Childhood. The album features five works by Romanian composer Georges Enescu. The "Piano Quintet in D major," which is strongly influenced by Brahms, who was Enescu's youthful admirer, was performed at his first own composition concert in Paris in 1897 at the age of 16. The "Aubade" for piano and string trio and the piano trio "Distant Serenade" are charming works that were praised by Enescu's beloved teacher, Gabriel Fauré. The "Homage," which uses Fauré's name as a motive for the melody, also has a poetic and dreamy atmosphere. Impressions of a Childhood," which is also the title of the album, is a masterpiece from Enescu's later years. It is a work in which Enescu attempted to depict in sound the dreams and impressions of his childhood that were fading into the haze of time, including his memory of his first encounter with a street-corner fiddler when he was three years old. Gilles Apap, who plays the violin in this piece, is an Algerian-born Frenchman with a strong technique and is especially popular for his hot performances of Roma music.Ensemble Lalo is a group named after "Dr. Lalo", who is portrayed as the force that brings balance to the relative creative spirits in Schumann's "David's Alliance".
