Solo album by Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic. McGill was the first African-American principal clarinetist in the New York Philharmonic orchestra and was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 2020 for his outstanding musicianship and distinguished service. Accompanist Gloria Chen is a pianist who frequently performs with McGill and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and this album is the result of their 15-year friendship. The recording focuses on Brahms' two clarinet sonatas and Weber's Concerto Grand Duet, which showcases the two players' exceptional virtuosity and the exchange of sound. Also a world premiere recording, Peace in 2020 is a new work by Jesse Montgomery, Composer-in-Residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The work was written in the hope that the chaos caused by the new coronavirus pandemic will bring peace to the world. Naxos Japan
