Description:
The title of the film, "Hibernian," means "Irish" in Latin. The original title "Hibernian" means "Irish" in Latin, and the city of Dublin is famous in the history of Baroque music for being the place where Handel's "Messiah" was first performed. Performed at Christ Church in Dublin in January 1694, English royal composer Purcell's ode "Praise the Great Founder" is a retrospective exaltation of the legitimacy of English royal rule in Ireland. The libretto is by the renowned English laureate Nayham Tate. The second half of the album features the little-known Serenata by Kusser, one of the leading figures in the popularization of orchestral French suites in the German-speaking world.Born in Pozhony, Hungary (now Bratislava, Slovakia), Kusser worked in German-speaking countries before moving to Dublin, where he also composed music for the British Royal Family. In this recording, Kusser's Serenata, in which the musees of Mount Parnassus appear with Apollo, the patron god of the arts, in praise of Queen Anne of England, is centered on an Italianate recitative and alternating arias, and the music is composed in a flexible style with rich ups and downs to keep the listener interested. The orchestra, which has made remarkable progress in the field of Irish baroque music, including the Irish folk song at the end, which is known to have been transcribed by Kusser, takes its time to bring out the charm of the work through its well-crafted interpretation.
