Anna Petrova is a Bulgarian-born pianist. She received her doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Horacio Gutierrez and André-Michel Shupe. She currently teaches piano at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and performs as a soloist and chamber musician. She has received an award from the United Nations for her work in support of refugees, and has been featured on an American television program as one of the "creative women" representing contemporary America. In this album, she performs works by Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Scriabin, and Vladigerov from her native Bulgaria, in an attempt to convey the "Slavic spirit" in these works. According to Petrova, the word "heart" is of Greek origin and means "to vibrate," as in the German word "Herz. In this performance, you can feel the trembling of her heart. Naxos Japan
