This album, "Und das Lied bleibt schon and the song remains beautiful," explores the depths of human existence through the musical expression of life's experiences. The texts used, by Rilke, Heine, and Aulrender and Eisinger, all weave together the experiences and messages of people who have endured pain and loss to attain a full and joyful life. These impressive songs were written by American-born composer Stanley Grill in 1953. He was devoted to medieval and Renaissance music, and many of his works feature ancient instruments. In this song, too, countertenor singing and viola d'amore were used extensively, and everything is performed on ancient instruments. The booklet includes a conversation (in German and English) between Stanley Grill and Elzbieta Syka-Bahler, viola player of the Pandolfis Consort, in which they discuss Stanley's fascination with medieval music, the instrumental characteristics of the viola d'amore, and the poetry he used. The interview also explains how this unique album came to be.The solo voices are soprano Liza Lombach from Vienna and countertenor Nicholas Spanos from Greece, who has already been highly acclaimed on several albums.
