Description:
The "Stabat Mater" by Pergolège with chorus and Haydn's symphony in the style of church music are two of the most dynamic orchestras on the French scene, and Le Concert de la Loge is especially well known for its interpretation of post-classical works. The orchestra here is one of the most dynamic on the French scene, especially in its interpretation of post-classical works, and is highly acclaimed. Although the music itself is the same as that of the more common two-man solo version, the version with chorus published in Paris in 1769 is used here. The chorus adds a fullness of sound and exquisite accents in many places, which is to great effect from the very beginning. Even after the death of Neapolitan composer Pergolesi in 1736, his "Stabat Mater" remained one of the most beloved masterpieces of his lifetime, and especially in Paris, where the number of lovers of Italian music was increasing, it continued to be performed again and again with different orchestrations as a standard piece at subscription concerts in the Concert Spirituelle. Conductor Chauvin will lead the orchestra as concertmaster with the original violin made in 1780 by Guadagnini, and the ensemble of about 20 members will interact effectively with the chorus of about 40 members, while the beautiful voices of the talented DeVos and Chalvet will provide a crisp and lively musical performance.Interestingly, the second half of the album also includes Symphony No. 49, "Passion," which Haydn composed in the traditional church music style the year before the score was published in Paris (he introduced the organ as a bass instrument, in keeping with the nature of the work). The two works are surprisingly naturally connected with the exquisiteness of the performance, and the atmosphere of Paris in the late 18th century, when these works were popular, seems to come vividly back to life. The commentary by Julien Dubruque and Chauvin of the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, based on the performance practices of the time, is also very interesting. Naxos Japan
