Amy Beach is known as the "first successful female composer" in modern America. She is credited with inspiring the American music world by entering the field of composition, which at the time was dominated by men. Although she was influenced by German Romantic music, she actively adopted English folk melodies in many of her works, but it was the piano that she was most attached to, and her 26 solo works are well balanced, ranging in date of composition from the 1880s to the 1930s. The works for four hands and two pianos, all of which are included on this album, are all brilliant testaments to Beach's talent. The "Variations on a Theme from the Balkans" is one of the most beautiful works, showing her devotion to folk music. The Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo, known for their many albums, including the complete Rachmaninoff duo album (555326), also play well together here. Naxos Japan
