Description:
Following the first collection (ATH-23204) released in 2019, Froberger's "Suites for Harpsichord, Vol. 2". Among the large number of keyboard works he left behind, a series of suites occupy a particularly important place. Most of the suites consist of four pieces, Armand, Courant, Sarabande, and Gigue, but the content is surprisingly varied, and all are very enjoyable to listen to. Froberger was also known for giving his works unique subtitles, and the first piece on this album, Suite in D major, FbWV 620, is titled "Meditation sur ma mort future. The performance is by Gilbert Roland, a harpsichordist born in Scotland in 1946. He is one of the oldest harpsichordists in Europe today, and has released the complete harpsichord sonatas of Soler and the clavesan works of Rameau on the NAXOS label, and Handel's suites on DIVINE ART, all of which are highly acclaimed for their excellent performances that explore in depth the period in which each work was written.
