Description:

Released to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Vasks' birth. The Latvian-born composer Petris Vasks will celebrate his 75th birthday on April 16, 2021. Croatian-born conductor Lepcic is known for being a good interpreter of Vasks and actively introducing his works, and this album includes three works for string orchestra and a cello concerto. The three works for string orchestra were composed over a period of almost 30 years, in 1983, 2002, and 2015, respectively, and show the tragic and passionate changes in Vasks's style, reflecting the death of his sister in 1983 and the uneasy political situation in Latvia, which occurred during that period. Concerto No. 2," premiered by Sol Gabetta and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, is a work with a slow, contemplative melody, although the middle movement has some intense musical passages. The two cadenzas, in which the deep cello tone is fully utilized, and the final movement, which is reminiscent of Barber's Adagio and Gretzky's "Symphony of Lamentations," end with a heavenly and beautiful soprano vocalise, which closes with a sobbing cello melody, The final movement ends with a heavenly soprano vocalise of heavenly beauty and a sobbing cello melody. Sinkevich was born in Belarus, won the first prize at the 2012 Yun-Yi San International Competition, and has since 2011 been the principal cellist of the Munich Radio Orchestra. Naxos Japan
