Description:
The opera "Resurrection" by composer Franco Alfano, known as the author of the completed version of Puccini's unfinished last work "Turandot". Inspired by "Resurrection" (1899), one of Tolstoy's masterpieces that would be adapted for the stage and screen worldwide, Alfano conceived the idea for this work, which was premiered in Turin in 1904 with great success and became his breakthrough work. The original novel was adapted for the Japanese stage, and "Katusha no uta" (Song of Katusha), sung by Sumako Matsui in the play, became a big hit in 1914. The leading couple, Katusha and Dmitrii, are played by Anne Sophie Duprel and Matthew Vickers, two of the most sought-after performers at Verismo operas around the world. Together with the Florentine May Festival Orchestra and Chorus, led by Francesco Lanzilotta, they vividly revive this masterpiece, full of dramatic and brilliant sounds that sometimes recall the music of Puccini and Richard Strauss, with the music of the Russian Orthodox prayer for the resurrection.
