Description:
A beautiful performance of the bond between the maestro and the orchestra! Jansons' Last Concert Listening to this recording, a variety of thoughts come to mind. The Jansons I knew was a sincere and unadorned musician who focused only on the core of his music. When this concert was given in New York, the members of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, who loved him, must have felt deep in their hearts that this would be their last opportunity to hear him. Their surging emotions were evident in Brahms' "Fourth," and as listeners, they could not feel very normal. --Takayoshi Kidokoro (music critic, in Berlin)The last concert of the famous conductor Mariss Jansons (1943-2019), who died suddenly in 2019, is now available on CD. It is a concert at Carnegie Hall with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, of which he was the chief conductor. It was known to the local audience that Jansons was in poor health, and this may have contributed to a certain tension, but "once he took the podium, he gave a surprisingly animated performance" and in the end "his decades of dedication to music, coupled with his indomitable spirit, won him the respectful and heartfelt applause of the New York audience" (Seen and Heard International review). In the end, "his decades of dedication to music, coupled with his indomitable spirit, earned him a respectful and heartfelt ovation from the New York audience" (Seen and Heard International, review of the concert). (Seen and Heard International review) Jansons cancelled all further concerts the following day and passed away three weeks later. The first half of the program consisted of Richard Strauss' "Four Symphonic Interludes from the Opera 'Intermezzo'" and "Four Last Songs" (not included on this album), both of which he loved all his life, and Brahms' "Symphony No. 4" in the second half. The clear tone of the flute solo in the final movement, which rises out of the thrilling interplay of sounds, and the delicacy of the chorale from the trombone are the result of the deep bond and trust between the orchestra and the maestro. The orchestra and the master are in deep bond and trust.Jansons' last words, a record of a special night that makes you think so. Naxos Japan
