Born in Russia, Marlov has studied violin since childhood and studied at the Mozarteum Conservatory, where he also plays the viola. He has won or placed first in many international competitions, including Munich, Heifetz, and Paganini. Whenever he heard Bach's Suites for Unaccompanied Cello, which he loves, he felt uncomfortable with the unnecessarily heavy tone of the music, no matter which virtuoso played it, and realized that he could use his technique more freely on the viola. In 2009, he happened to come across a video of the Suite No. 2 on violoncello da spalla, an 18th-century instrument larger and thicker than the viola, and ideal for Marloff because it could be played in a natural posture with the strap around the neck and shoulders, allowing for precise nuances. It was Marloff's ideal instrument. Marloff's theory is that Bach would have preferred a more natural and spontaneous performance of the Suite No. 6, especially since it was originally composed for the five-string cello, rather than the four-string cello with all the virtuosity of the great cellists.In addition, Badyarov, who was playing in the video that became a fateful encounter, is a person with whom Marlov had his instrument tuned when he was a child, and this time, he immediately asked Badyarov to build him an instrument, and the album was completed with fullness.
