Description:
Composer known as Antonio Salieri's mentor! A collection of arias by Florian Leopold Gassmann, one of the most recent composers to come into the limelight. Born in Brücks, Bohemia, Gassmann received his musical education in the local choir, and by the end of his twenties was already composing operas, which he is documented to have performed during the Venetian Carnival season. Many of his operas were written by Goldoni, a famous writer of the time, and his operas became so popular that they surpassed Gluck's. In 1763, Joseph II invited him to Vienna, and in 1772 he was appointed court conductor, earning the emperor's great trust. However, in 1774, at the height of his activities, he suffered an accidental fall from a carriage and died at the age of 45. The main reason why his name is now attracting attention is that he was Salieri's mentor. With the rise in popularity of Salieri, Gassman's works are also beginning to be heard. This collection of arias is an appropriate one for getting to know Gassmann's works, which are not often recorded. Enjoy the brilliant voice of up-and-coming soprano Anita Wegley. Naxos Japan
