Grammy Award-winning Pacifica String Quartet and world-renowned guitarist Sharon Isbin! A rare combination of string quartet and guitar in a collection of works by Spanish and Italian composers. The rarely heard secret, Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Guitar Quintet, written for Segovia, is a difficult piece that requires a very high level of skill. Vivaldi's Lute Concerto in D major, RV93, is performed here as a "Guitar Concerto" arranged by Pfohl, with Izbin's own exquisite ornaments in the meditative second movement (Largo). Boccherini's Quintet is in the classical style of 18th century Vienna with a flamenco flair. And from Turina's "Eulogy of a Bullfighter" we hear a private, quiet prayer. Naxos Japan
