Georges Brassens (1921-1981), a post-World War II socialist poet who ranks alongside Ferré, Trenet, and Bourelle in the world of chansons, was, as so many French singers of his generation were, keenly interested in the works of famous French literary figures such as Ronsard, Deportes, Pilon, Rousseau, and Hugo, as well as traditional songs. Arnaud Marzorati, who has explored the margins of music history, including the nineteenth-century poet Bélanger on the Alpha label, has been a keen interest in the intrinsic compatibility of these poems with Renaissance and Baroque instruments, and has also been a great advocate for the use of the lyrics in his own songs. The world of the poets from the 15th to the 19th century is presented in the Brassans songs and the sounds of the instruments of the period in which each poet lived.
