Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" and "The Firebird" by Jansons & Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra! Composed in 1913, Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" is one of the most outstandingly complex, rhythmically dissonant works of all ballet music. Composed for the Ballets Russes (Russian Ballet Company) led by Sergei Diaghilev, it is known to have caused quite a stir when it was first performed. The Firebird," composed in 1910, was also commissioned by Diaghilev. The great success of the premiere of "The Firebird" led Diaghilev to commission ballets from Stravinsky one after another, resulting in "Petrushka" the following year and "The Rite of Spring" the year after that. Jansons has recorded "The Rite of Spring" and "The Firebird" several times, all with skillful performances that maximize the functionality of the orchestra, and this performance with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks is a dynamic fusion of frantic acoustics and supple expression.The "Firebird" was recorded in 2004, also with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, but the 1919 version was used in that recording, and the 1945 version is thicker and more enjoyable in some important parts.
