Bruckner Symphony No. 7, the previous recording of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra on its 65th anniversary, was highly acclaimed in terms of both performance and recording, winning double awards at the 22nd Music Pen Club Music Awards in the categories of "Best Album" (for classical Japanese performance) and "Best Recording". The second Bruckner recording by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hubert Soudant, is Symphony No. 8! Hubert Sdahn became Music Director of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 2004 after 13 years as Music Director of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. With Haydn as his starting point, Sudern has made classical works by Mozart and Beethoven the centerpiece of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra's program, and has steadily enhanced the orchestra's capabilities with the Schubert Cycle in 2008 and the Schumann & Brahms Cycle in 2009. Bruckner's Symphony No. 8, like No. 7, was recorded over a two-day session at their home base, the MUZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall.Among Bruckner's symphonies, of which Mr. Sudaun is a master, "No. 8 is his masterpiece," and he loves it the most. The conductor and orchestra, who know the hall's acoustics well, filled the hall space with a deep and matured sound. As I listened, I forgot about the conductor and the orchestra, immersed myself in the world of this lifetime symphony, and trembled with a feeling akin to gratitude for the workings of my heart....
