Description:
Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, known as both a master filmmaker and a cinephile, made his directorial debut in 1983 with *The Kanda River War*. His next film, originally slated for release under the title *College Girls’ Embarrassing Seminar*, was shelved but later re-edited and released through an unusual arrangement in which the production company, Director’s Company, handled its own distribution. Kunitoshi Manda co-wrote the screenplay. Akiko (Yoko Horaguchi), who entered university to follow her crush, senior student Yoshioka (Kento Kato), is asked by Professor Hirayama (Juzo Itami) of the psychology seminar to participate as a subject in a “shyness experiment,” but… This film marks the debut leading role for Yoko Horaguchi, who, following this film, became a muse for the Japanese indie film scene of the late 1980s, centered around Itami Films and Kurosawa’s works.
