This is a video of Donizetti's "Convenience and Inconvenience at the Theater," a hugely entertaining comedy about the slapstick of an opera rehearsal. The baritone, dressed as a woman and going on a rampage, is like a batten Arakawa, and it can't not be funny. The performance included in this DVD was presented by Accademia, La Scala's training institute, which has produced many outstanding singers in recent years. The singers are all young people, and there may be stars in their future. Although it is an Acquademia production, it is still a production by La Scala, and the conductor is Marco Guidarini, former chief conductor of the Opera de Nice, and the director is Antonio Albanese, a famous Italian comedian and director. The recording is beautifully recorded in HDD.A DVD was also released earlier by BONGIOVANNI (AB 20016), both based on the critical editions revised by Roger Parker and Anders Wiklund, but the edition chosen for the La Scala Accademia production is slightly different, so enthusiasts will be glad to have both.
