Shostakovich, Dmitri (1906-1975)
Description:
These are two cello concertos by Shostakovich (1906-1975) with Norway's proud cello virtuoso, Tors Mørk (Melk), as soloist. The first concerto was composed in 1959. The horn, the only brass instrument used in this piece, plays a major role, giving it the feel of a double concerto in effect. The second piece, written in 1966, is a gloomy and mysterious piece that directly reflects the feelings of Shostakovich, who at the time had health concerns. It is also an original work in that it begins with a slow movement. Both pieces are masterpieces in which the cello and orchestra display their full power to create a close-knit world. Mørk was born into a musical family in Bergen, Norway, where he first studied piano and eventually began playing the violin and cello. In 1982, she became the first Scandinavian performer to be a finalist in the International Tchaikovsky Competition, and since then she has won numerous prizes in competitions and has performed with orchestras around the world. Since then, he has performed with orchestras all over the world and has received accolades from many conductors. He has recorded a wide range of works, from Russian works, which he has always loved, to basic Bach, many concertos, and R. Strauss' Don Quixote, and has been spreading his appeal. ) on the ONDINE label, but in this Shostakovich, the performance is even more profound. Conductor Petrenko has been praised for his stylish and solid interpretation of Shostakovich's complete symphonies on NAXOS.Here, too, he has the Oslo Philharmonic at his command, and plays Shostakovich with great urgency.
