John Biggum, aka Soul of John Black, a multi-instrumentalist who has performed as a member of Fishbone and on Miles Davis albums, returns to his roots in the groove-rich soul-blues tradition on his latest studio album. From Albert King-style melancholy blues to Memphis soul rooted in the gospel of Mavis Staples and others, to New Orleans party numbers, the future of soul blues is heard based on the deep knowledge he has cultivated. John Biggum, aka The Soul of John Black, was born in Chicago in 1969. In 1989, at the age of 20, he contributed the song "Jilli" to Miles Davis' album "Amandla" and played programming, guitar, and keyboards. From 1991, he joined the ska-funk-rock band Fishbone, where he was a multi-instrumentalist for eight years. In 2003, he began his solo career and released his self-titled album, "The Good Girl Blues," which was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2007.Since then, he has consistently released "Black John" in 2009, "Good Thang" in 2011, "A Sunshine State Of Mind" in 2013, and "Early In The Moanin'" in 2016 He returned to Fishbone in 2017. He has also shown his talent by performing with artists of various genres, including Eminem, Dr. Dre, Nikka Costa, and Bruce Hornsby.
