Freedy Johnston is a singer/songwriter from Kinsley, Kansas, born in 1961, who picked up the guitar at age 16 and started playing music seriously when she went to the University of Kansas. In 1989, he made his debut with "The Trouble Tree" on Bar/None. His second album, "Can You Fly" (1992), was named one of the best albums of the year by the New York Times. In 1994, he signed with Elektra and made his major label debut with "This Perfect World".It also charted on the Billboard 100 and received high acclaim from many media outlets. He has since released three albums on the Elektra label, including "Never Home (97)". His songs have been used in many films, including "Heavy (95)" and "Kingpin (96)". In 2012, he released another album as a trio with John Dee Graham and Susan Cowsill.
