Yoshiki is a three-piece band that blasts an anachronistic sense of self-pity at full volume. The band—comprising Toyokawa Zashiki (Gt/Vo), Kensuke Funamoto (Dr), and John Otaka (Ba)—has released a six-track mini-album featuring their signature songs, honed through live performances. Featuring a re-recording of “Cat × Rain × Night” from their former band era (Yoshiki of Toyokawa Zashiki), the album etches its distorted lyricism and raw band sound into the listener’s memory. Following “Cat × Rain × Night”—a re-recording of a track from their earlier days as “Toyokawa Zashiki no Yoshi”—this six-track mini-album features their signature songs performed at live shows over the years. The gloomy, reclusive blues of the former “Cat Shiki” and “Rain Shiki” eras have faded into the background, giving way to a collection of songs that embrace life anew, albeit with a certain sense of resignation. We hope you’ll enjoy this album while also listening to the band’s earlier songs on streaming services. Whether you try to grow or not, you can’t stay the same as you were in the past. The final track, “No Room for Kokeshi,” describes what the artist saw when peering into his own mind: just a single kokeshi doll. That’s pretty pitiful.
