A collection of works by Richard Mico (ca. 1590-1661), a 17th-century English composer who served Sir William Peter, William Byrd's former patron, for 22 years and left numerous viol compositions. Miko's catalog of works reflects how deeply rooted consort music was in the musical life of 16th- and 17th-century England, and Christopher Simpson (ca.1605-1669), a renowned composer and music theorist of viola da gamba and consort music, was also one of the leading composers of viol music. He is also cited as one of the leading composers of viol music. Each piece has a subtitle, such as "Sweet Rose," "Between Spring and Summer," or "In the Dark," which the performers have newly added in the tradition of Dowland, Holborn, and Hume in order to capture the imagination of the listener.
