A picture book album from a Swedish duo. The Nordic Light Duo is an ensemble started in 2014 by two Swedish musicians. Mezzo-soprano Josephine Andersson (b.1983) studied at the Royal Opera Academy in Stockholm and made her debut as an opera singer at the Royal Danish Opera House in Copenhagen in 2009 in the role of Doriade in R. Strauss' "Ariadne on Naxos. She is also active as a concert singer. Pianist Daniel Beskov studied at the Stockholm State Conservatory of Music and the Etzberg Music School under Izy Hlinka and Peter Feuchtwanger. He received his soloist diploma under Niklas Sverrev and Einar Steen-Nokleberg. Andersson and Beskov also took lessons from Anne Sofie von Otter and Bengt Forsberg, who are popular as a duo. The present work, "Fairy Tales," is an album with a concert program by the Nordic Light Duo. It features songs and solo piano pieces by Alveen, Sjögren, Steenhammar, and Pettechon-Berrier from Sweden, Grieg from Norway, Sibelius from Finland, and Lange-Müller from Denmark, along with works by Schubert and others.The world of the wonderful fairy tales of Elsa Beskov, a popular Swedish picture book author, was the inspiration for this album, and it is beautifully bound in a digipack format with many of her drawings and text, creating a wonderful "salon atmosphere," as if you were holding a picture book in your hands.
