Description:

Henze's (1926-2012) Symphony No. 7, written as a commission for the 100th anniversary of the Berlin Philharmonic Society, combines a neoclassical flavor with a heavy use of ostinato (the repetition of a certain pattern over and over...meaning paranoid) and romantic harmony in the third movement, The third movement of this work is a relatively familiar piece of contemporary music, with both a neoclassical flavor with a lot of ostinato (a kind of pattern repeated many times...meaning paranoia) and romantic harmony. Henze himself described it as "the closest to the classical model among my symphonies," indicating that it was a work in which he was very confident. The "Seven Boleros" were composed at the same time as the opera "Venus and Adonis," and each of them has a Spanish subtitle. The Overture for the Theater" was Henze's last work, commissioned for the 100th anniversary of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Henze sadly passed away seven days after the premiere of this piece. The last piece recorded, "Blue Hour," is a scene from the opera "The Triumph of Love between the Lampreys and their Son," which was premiered at the Frankfurt Opera. This beautiful little piece is said to depict the colors of the evening sky in sound. Performed by Stenz, who is highly regarded as a "Henze specialist" in Europe. Naxos Japan
