He was an important partner of Brigitte Fontaine in both her public and private life, and was instrumental in many of her masterpieces. Except for two albums with Jacques Igerin and Brigitte, this is his third solo album in 15 years. He is 85 years old and has the same stature as Leonard Cohen. It is rare for an artist to keep the flame of his or her creative fire burning, and even rarer for a lover to stay with him or her for a lifetime. Aleski Belkacem is one of those people who nurture an unquenchable fire in their hearts and whose passion for music burns as fiercely as their passion for their loved ones. It doesn't matter how long the journey takes, as long as the message eventually reaches the other person. His new album, Long courrier, is a true testament to that. The 12 previously unreleased songs sound like flowing love letters set to music. In a career spanning nearly 60 years, Aleski Belkacem has released only three solo albums. They are intimate, deeply personal works that whisper to the one you love. In an age when commercial demands dictate much of music production, these records exist solely to satisfy his need for expression. As the late music lover and producer Jean-Philippe Allard once said, "Aleski goes against the current. Aleski defies the currents of the times. He always seems to enjoy going down the forbidden path! In Long courrier, Aleski tenderly expresses his love for his homeland and his loved ones. He believes in the power of sensuality, the sanctity of pleasure, and the beauty hidden within every person, undaunted by the hardships of life. With a brotherly gaze on the stranger, she sings of inner journeys, doubts, vows, and eternal bonds in a voice as warm and bright as her loving smile. It celebrates the mystery of the fusion of music and the French language. The familiar Chavi rhythm and guitar are fused with piano, accordion, bass, and electric guitar, with musicians who have played together on stage for more than 20 years. They support the incomparable Brigitte Fontaine, whom they share on stage and in life.
