The Schubert Harmonia Nova series by the hot young baritone, Samuel Hasselhorn, who made his debut with a collection of Schumann works (HMN 916114), presents Schubert. Here is the Hasselhorn of today, with a restrained expression that makes you think he is the second coming of Dieskau, and a youthful bounce and power that was born in 1990. The program includes well-known and rarely performed pieces on Schubert's favorite themes of nature, night, parting, absence, and death, but all of them are excellent, with Hasselhorn's singing shining through. As in the Schumann disc, Josef Middleton plays the piano. The world of the lyrics could not be more vivid. Samuel Hasselhorn (baritone), born in 1990, won first prize in the vocal category at the 2018 Queen Elisabeth Music Competition and is a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera, sometimes appearing as Belcore (The Wonderful Medicine of Love) and Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro). In addition to performing in European and American opera houses, she is also emerging as a Lieder singer and has already made her debut at the Wigmore Hall. King International
