Description:
A Journey to the Iberian Peninsula in the 18th Century with SteyrThe world of 18th century Spain and Portugal with Steyr is now available in a collection of music related to the Iberian Peninsula in the 18th century, titled A Portuguesa - Portuguese Style: Concertos and Sonatas from Iberia. The program is very elaborate, ranging from Seixas' rich concertos with virtuoso elements and Boccherini's bustling Madrid to music originating from the Iberian Peninsula, which was born in England, where music from the Iberian Peninsula was in high demand. D. Scarlatti's sonata, as always, is full of inspiration and brilliant solos. The Orquestra Baccaloca Casa da Musica is an ensemble founded in 2006 by Lawrence Cummings, who collaborated with Steyer on the Brandenburg Concerto in 2015. Steyer conducts the orchestra on this disc and has also made arrangements for the orchestra. The music of the Iberian Peninsula in the 18th century comes alive in this CD. He published two volumes of concertos, "Le bizzarie universali" (in 1728 and 1742). Literally, it means "rare things (people) from around the world," and it contains works in styles reminiscent of Portugal as well as Milan, Sicily, Spain, and many other lands. The piece here is titled "Portugal's" (although the style is more reminiscent of Italy (Corelli)). The nostalgia of the second movement is reminiscent of Portugal. (1/2) King International
