The "Emperor of the Music World’s" landmark recording is now available in the Original Source Series as a 3-LP box set In 2026, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first complete performance of Wagner’s four-part “Ring Cycle,” Herbert von Karajan’s monumental complete recording of “The Ring” will be released in the “Original Source Series.” This release features the opera “Das Rheingold” in a 3-LP box set. Karajan’s complete “Ring” recording stands apart from others, featuring a truly unique approach to beauty, lyricism, and structure. He assembled a world-class cast of singers capable of delivering a vivid, clear interpretation of the text with an orchestral quality of sound, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s performance was fully up to the task. According to Karajan himself, it was during the production of *Boris Godunov* in the summer of 1965 that he envisioned this future. “Suddenly, I was seized by an intense desire to stage and conduct Wagner in Salzburg.” Karajan’s dream—it was precisely in line with Wagner’s own spirit: “My baton will show the way forward into the future.” 180g heavyweight virgin vinyl. This is the first time in this series that a 2-track stereo master has been used. The 52-page facsimile, a reproduction of the original release booklet, includes the complete libretto (German, English, French), biographies of all artists (German, English, French), and liner notes (Martin Cooper [UK] / Siegfried Melchinger [Ger.] / Guy Fersaux [Fr.]), an essay by Wolfram Schwinger on Karajan’s “Ring” (Ger., Eng., Fr.), artist photographs, copies of Wagner’s letters and original scores, as well as photographs of historic Wagner performers. In addition to the track list and recording notes compiled on a single sheet, the release includes a new text by Rainer Mayr and Sidney C.
