FuturePalace, a three-piece band from Berlin, Germany, is rapidly making a name for itself in the modern metal scene. Since their formation, the band has demonstrated that the post-hardcore genre is by no means confined to a rigid framework, but rather a medium for expression that holds infinite creative potential.
Their fourth album, *Resurgence*, explores themes of “loneliness,” “internal conflict,” and “self-renewal.” Centered on the intensity of post-hardcore, the album fuses cinematic electronica, emotional melodies, and heavy breakdowns. The band describes this work as depicting “the process of gradually transforming from despair into strength.”
This album also features new creative challenges. In the already-released tracks (2) “Resurge” and (5) “The Shades,” the band has incorporated elements of nu-metal into their traditional sound. Guitarist Manuel Kohlert describes this as “a type of experiment we’ve never attempted before” and reveals that they drew inspiration from the soundtrack of the Japanese video game *Solatorobo: Then to CODA*. Additionally, track (4) “Disintegrate,” which masterfully blends their signature sound with new metal elements, is a must-listen. Furthermore, the graceful flow that progresses from (6) “Nixy”—with its catchy and grandiose chorus that sets hearts racing—to (7) “Thorns,” where Maria sings a poignant yet beautiful melody, and on to (8) “EbbandFlow,” can certainly be considered one of the highlights of this album.
FUTUREPALACE’s growth is also evident in their various achievements. Their second album, *Run* (2022), reached No. 82 on the German domestic charts, while their third album, *Distortion* (2024), peaked at No. 32. Furthermore, they have built a reputation for their overwhelming live performances, appearing at Europe’s leading rock festivals—including Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Rock am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting, and Nova Rock—and continue to grow as a rising star leading Germany’s next-generation metal scene.
*Resurgence*, an ambitious album that further deepens their dynamic song structures—which depict grand contrasts—and cinematic arrangements while incorporating a groove rooted in nu-metal, is a record that confirms FuturePalace’s next major leap forward.
