Coming Up To Consciousness," the sixth studio album by the talented UK progressive rock band Pure Reason Revolution, is, like the previous two albums, a very personal work by frontman Jon Courtney. Themes of betrayal, deception, fear, grief, death, questioning one's sanity, and struggles with darkness of various kinds, are heavily influenced by the death of his dog, which happened to him.With the addition of new member Annicke Shireen on vocals, the band has retained the dreamy mood, epic riffs, angelic harmonies, and unique style of blending progressive rock and pop that they have established, while also incorporating influences from longtime influences such as Pink Floyd, as well as Talk Talk, Elliott Smith, The Smile, and even Arctic Monkeys.
