Description:
A vocal journey across time, history, and emotion - Petibon's expressive personality is on full display in this collection of arias! Patricia Petibon is a renowned French soprano. She studied with William Christie, was recognized by Arnoncourt, and started out as a singer with a unique presence in operetta and baroque opera, eventually expanding her repertoire not only to baroque but also to Berg's "Lulu". Following the release in 2020 of the songbook "Love, Death, and the Sea," a collection of songs by various composers, this second Sony Classical release, titled "La Traversee" (French for "crossing," "crossing," or "voyage"), is Petibon's long-awaited collection of opera arias. But this is not just a collection of arias, as Petitbon is an individualist. It begins and ends with Purcell, but even Verdi and Offenbach make appearances, and through the arias of the unique heroines, this is an album that allows the listener to fully appreciate the variety of his expressiveness. Performing with them are Andrea Marcon and the La Chetra Baroque Orchestra, who have participated in Petitbon's previous aria collections.Petibon is backed up by an emotional and dynamic performance. The past, present, and future, communicated, are connected to form a whole. This crossing of time is the epic of a tragic heroine who is constantly being replayed. Renoir's "The Ball at Moulin de la Galette" conveys the image of transmission. Each person depicted in this painting is a character, for he or she is observing another character, unaware that he or she is being observed. The composer is affected in the opposite way. Music is purified, colored, and enriched by time and life. It is a game of light and shade. Fedora, Electra, Alceste, the Archduke, Cleopatra, all are women captivated by passion, oscillating between Eros and Thanatos. The composer's talent leaves a distinctive stamp on history. Its legacy permeates our souls, and Andrea Marcon, La Chetra Baroque Orchestra, and I dance the Passacaglia of Life." (Patricia Petibon) "In this album, Patricia has chosen to compile arias from a wide range of periods, from Landi and Purcell to Offenbach and Verdi. It is very rich music. Behind the title La Traversee (The Crossing, The Voyage) is the image of a journey through time, history, and emotions through the voice. It is a program that perfectly reflects Patricia's emotions."
