Rustioni, a brilliant scholar in pursuit of the soul of Italy, finally reaches the Casella album that has been called the "Italian Mahler". Daniele Rustioni has successively recorded the quintessential composers of Italian music, Ghedini (2016) and Petrassi (2018), with his hand-picked Toscana Orchestra. His third album for Sony Classical is a collection of works by Casella, who has been attracting attention in Japan in recent years as Noseda has featured him with the NHK Symphony Orchestra. On this album, too, the works are given a fresh hearing with strong leadership and driving force. Italian composer Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) studied composition at the Paris Conservatory with Ravel and Enescu. At the same time, he became friends with Debussy, Stravinsky, and Falla, and had contact with Busoni, Mahler, and R. Strauss. While revising Baroque music by Gabrieli, Frescobaldi, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Tartini, and many others, he also incorporated them to create his own music. In addition to music, he was influenced by many of the avant-garde art forms of the time, including cubism and abstract painting.The album includes three of Casella's most important and well-known works.
