Olga Pelechacko, a prima who shares popularity with Netrebko in Europe, is the first Mozart performer to showcase her ability to Japanese music fans, including her dramatic "Lucia di Lammermoor" at the New National Theater in 2017 and her lovely singing in "Carmina Burana" with Paavo Järvi and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in the fall of 2018. Olga Pelechacko has demonstrated her abilities to the fullest. This latest album, her fifth for Sony Classical, is titled "Mozart + (Plus)" and features operatic arias by Mozart and his contemporaries. Combining arias from Mozart's four most popular operas with arias from Paisiello, Sorel, and Tommaso, all of which are rarely performed today, the album is an exciting portrait of the musical exchange in European opera in the late 18th century. The composer Tommaso Traetta (1727-1779), who first appears on this album, was a pupil of Nicola Porpora and achieved his first success with the opera "Farnace," which was staged in Naples in 1751.He was appointed to the position of court musician in Parma, but he had a difficult time because Parma at that time enthusiastically accepted Rameau's works in the French Versailles style. However, with the help of important collaborators, he wrote mainly opera seria in a style that combined Italian, French, and German elements, and "Antigone," composed in 1772 in Traetta's later years, was a revolutionary work in the most advanced style of the time. After Traetta's death, opera seria were on the verge of extinction for various artistic and financial reasons, but Mozart revived them. The two arias by Mozart that follow were composed as inserts (alternative pieces for performances) for the opera "The Good-natured Temperamentalist" by Vicente Martín y Soler (1754-1806), a Valencian composer and rival of Mozart, who appears in the next track. Perechacco also adds technique and captivating emotion to Mozart's opera arias, singing them with his astonishing coloratura, strong voice, and passionate delivery.Backing him is Ivor Bolton, who has been the principal conductor of the prestigious Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland since the 2016/17 season. In recent years, his performance of Bruckner's symphonies, characterized by a light and transparent sound that incorporates period technique, has been a hot topic of conversation, bringing a breath of fresh air to the ears of listeners who have traditionally valued a heavier sound. Bolton, who has a wide range of repertoire from ancient to contemporary music, and who has a high quality of performance in both opera and orchestral music, supports Perechacco's singing with a tight performance with good tempo and clarity, incorporating the results of his period instrumental performance.
