Thielemann, the master of the German musical tradition, makes his first appearance at the New Year's Concert. The New Year's Concert is one of the most famous classical music events in the world and is broadcast from Vienna's golden Musikvereinsaal to more than 90 countries around the world via TV and radio, reaching over 500 million viewers. In 2019, Christian Thielemann, who is also Principal Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden and General Music Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival, is considered a world master of German music in both name and reality. Christian Thielemann makes his first appearance at the New Year's Concert.Thielemann has been a regular conductor with the Vienna Philharmonic since his debut in 2000 conducting R. Strauss' Alpine Symphony, and from 2008 to 2010 he played an important role in the orchestra's performance of the complete Beethoven symphonies, which were recorded and released on video and sound. In February 2008, Thielemann impressed the audience at the Vienna Philharmonic Ball with his performance of "Celestial Music" and other works from the Johann Strauß family repertoire. Thielemann has conducted operettas and other works at the Staatskapelle Dresden's annual Gilvester Concert, but has never conducted a Strauss Family program consisting of waltzes and polkas. We can expect to see what kind of waltz and polka world Thielemann, who has a strong personality and excels at making profound music, will bring out from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.In addition to the standard works such as "The Blue Danube" and "Racoczi March," the program will also include thematic pieces such as the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Austria ("Transaxionen"), the 150th anniversary of the Vienna State Opera ("A Night at the Opera"), and various anniversaries in 2019. The New Year's Concert will consist of a variety of thematic works, including various anniversaries in 2019. The New Year's Concert will feature five works that will be performed for the first time.
