Kim Min-jin, born in Korea and raised in England, began playing the violin at the age of 6 and at 16 became the youngest recipient of the Royal College of Music Foundation's Prize for Excellence. He was 27 when he received the Heifetz Prize. Conductor Solti praised his "outstanding natural talent, mature musicianship, and mastery of the violin. "On November 29, 2010, a Stradivarius, a 1696 violin masterpiece valued at $1.9 million, was stolen in central London. The entire violin case was stolen from a sandwich store at Euston Station in central London during a moment when the customer left his seat to order a meal. The stolen violin belonged to Kim Min-jin, a Korean violinist active in the United Kingdom and other European countries. In addition to the violin, the case also contained a bow worth $100,000 and a bow worth $8,000. The violin had been hers since she was a teenager. Its theft shocked her greatly, and the severing of the intense bond forged by an artist with "one" true instrument was an irreparable trauma.But in July 2013, the violin was miraculously found in a building in central England, largely undamaged.
