Description:

Mezzo-soprano Léa Desendre makes her debut as an exclusive member of Erato! In recent years, new talents have emerged one after another in the world of French classical music. Léa Desendrée, a mezzo-soprano diva, was selected at the age of 20 for "Le Jardin des Voix," a project by conductor William Christie to develop the talents of young vocalists, and was named Vocal Discovery of the Year at the 2017 French Victoire Classical Music Awards. Award for Vocal Discovery of the Year. She studied under Sara Mingardo in Venice and also studied for 12 years as a ballet dancer: since 2015, she has performed the roles of Jurban in The Huguenots, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Antonio in Emperor Tito's Mercy, Sesto in Giulio Cesare, Dido in Dido and Aeneas In 2018, she performed to rave reviews at the Opéra Comique in Paris in Et in Arcadiaego, a one-singer full-stage production of Rameau's music. She also made her debut at the 2018 Salzburg Festival with Offenbach's "La Pericole" conducted by Marc Minkowski. That summer, she appeared in "The Crowning of Poppea," conducted by William Christie and directed by Jan Rhoads; in 2019, in the acclaimed oratorio "The Death of Abel" by Caldara; and in 2020, the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival, in the role of Despina in "Mozart: Cosi fan tutte," directed by Christoph Roy and conducted by Joanna Marwitz, with the Vienna Philharmonic and released on DVD on the Erato label. In 2020, the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival, she will perform as Despina in "Mozart: Così fan tutte" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Christoph Roy and conducted by Joanna Marwitz, which is available on DVD on the Erato label. The lutenist Thomas Dunford, who has also made a name for himself in the world of music, has formed the ensemble "Jupiterre" (Jean Rondeau on bass harpsichord) with his trusted musicians, and together they will present a program of arias from baroque operas, highlighting various aspects of singing expression. The album is an album of arias from baroque operas, which are brought to life from various angles through the expression of singing. The album is based on baroque music written about the Amazons (Amazones), a mythical race of female warriors. The mythical tribe, whose ancestors were the war goddess Ares and the Harmonians of Nymphea, lived along the coast of the Black Sea, which for the Greeks of that time was the northern, uncharted land of Caucasus, Scythia, and northern Thrace (the Black Sea was also once called the Amazone Sea). In addition to the Black Sea coast, Amazons also lived in Anatolia (Asia Minor) and North Africa, and are thought to be the Greeks' exaggerated version of a real matrilineal tribe. They are also said to have been hunters who tamed horses and excelled in combat. Léa Desendres is the Amazon in Baroque opera. She is a particularly interesting character who embodies the "male/female" duality and explores the profundity of the work through her engaging singing style. The gender ambiguity that plays such an important role in so many operatic narratives provides an endless source of dramatic and musical inspiration. In this exclusive debut recording for Erato, Cecilia Bartoli and Veronique Jans perform with Rea in duets, and their teacher William Christie plays harpsichord in a work by Coupland.
