Gardner & City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra! Schubert Symphonies Vol. 3! Schubert by the next generation of British maestro Edward Gardner! Edward Gardner has been the Chief Conductor of the prestigious Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway since 2015, and will succeed Jurowski as Chief Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021. Gardner is expected to play an active role in the future as Britain's next maestro, and this is the third volume of his complete Schubert symphonies! Gardner, together with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where he once served as principal guest conductor, gives us a refined performance of Schubert's works written by a young composer. The "No. 1", composed at the age of 16, reveals that the young Schubert already understood the form and technique of the symphony. The work shows the influence of Haydn, Mozart, and the early Beethoven. The "No. 4," written three years later, is a more ambitious work that reveals Schubert's ingenious attempt to unify the themes throughout the piece. This album gives us a glimpse into the process of Schubert's later symphonic works. The first volume (RCHSA5234/CHSA5234) and the second volume (RCHSA5245/CHSA5245) have both been selected as a special selection by Record Artists. Tokyo M-Plus
