The latest release is a collection of chamber works by Mendelssohn's sister and brother! The newest release is a collection of chamber works by Mendelssohn's sister and brother, combining two rare chamber works by Fanny Mendelssohn (1805-1847), who is rapidly gaining recognition as an outstanding composer, and a piano sextet written by her brother Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) in just 14 days when he was 15, and never published before his death. The result is a combination of the precociousness of these two genius siblings and their closely intertwined yet distinct sound worlds,It is a piece that simultaneously showcases the fresh musicality of the ensemble. Fanny's "Piano Quartet in A-flat major," written when she was 17 years old, is a work that challenges the sonata form and shows a will to achieve something different from the tradition. On the other hand, "Piano Trio in D minor" was premiered in April 1847, in the last year of Fanny's life, and it too was written in a surprisingly adventurous manner, including the finale. It is definitely a work that should be performed more widely. Felix's "Piano Sextet in D major" was written for an unusual ensemble of piano, violin, two violas, cello, and double bass, with a brilliant piano part influenced by Weber's "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra" (Konzertstück), which the sister and brother were both passionate about.
