Sophie Yates, Chandos' renowned old-time keyboardist, studied with Ruth Dyson and Robert Woolley in England and Bob van Asperen in Holland, and began her international career by winning an international competition at the Boston Old Music Festival. In addition to being highly acclaimed for her affinity for British and French music, she is also known as a specialist in original and antique instruments, having played most of the existing playable virginals in the UK. Sophie Yates' first Bach album since "Arrangements from Vivaldi and the Marcello Brothers" (CHAN0796) is a complete recording of one of Bach's early masterpieces, the English Suite. The rich dances are brought to life with the sparkling tone of the double manual Flemish harpsichord made by Androu Garlick, a replica of the Johannes Lukkers 1624 harpsichord in the collection of the Museum Unterlinden, France.
