Janacek's "Diary of a Missing Man," sung mainly by a tenor soloist with some soprano and chorus (a small three-part female chorus), is, like his String Quartet No. 2 "The Secret Letter," a work closely related to his strong romantic attachment to his wife Camilla Stoslová, who was nearly 40 years younger than he was.
